On Sunday 8th March a group of Dover Road Runners took on the Lydd Half Marathon and Lydd 20 mile races.  Promised to be a pancake –flat course it did not disappoint and there were certainly no hills in Lydd and the surrounding Romney Marsh!  It was a beautiful sunny morning if a little breezy when we set off which made for a very pleasant run and pretty course but there was a stiff headwind for the last 3 miles.  The half marathon and 20 mile route followed the same course which was an out and back.  This was good for team spirit as were able to cheer each other on when we passed each other.

 The Half Marathon was led home by Mark Sluman in a great time of 1:45 with Emma Stockley in 1:52.  Mike Bond finished in 2:26 and Billy Baker showed his endurance finishing in 3:10.

 The 20 mile route was led home by Gary Husk in an amazing time of 2:17 (25th overall) with Carson Medhurst hot on his tail in 2:22 (a fantastic PB).  Claire Thurgate and Odette Collard-Woolmer finished together in 3:03 (PB’s for both).  Alison Fitz finished in 3:29, Michele Barnes 3:33 and Leon Goldsack 4:25.
