Water of Life Half Marathon and 10k, near Marlow
By Richard Phillips
For those that don’t (yet) run, it is a great pastime for all ages and genders and in organised events you run both against those in your age and gender category and against yourself, searching for that elusive PB.
Jane and Richard Phillips of Dover Road Runners travelled to the Water of Life event that starts at the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey near Marlow and winds its away along the Thames, across meadows and bridges and through kissing gates. . It was a day of cloud, blue sky and hail! Cold – but that’s good for runners. Red kites wheeled overhead along some of the course.
The aim was to meet up with some of the family. Jane entered the 10k and finished 12th in her age group in a time of 1hr 5 mins. Had she achieved a PB she would have been 4th! Richard finished the half marathon in 2hrs 1 minute, 6th in over 60s age group. Ed, who trains with Dover Road Runners when he’s at home finished the half marathon in 1 hr 27 mins, 7th overall and third in his age group. Will took 1hr 58 mins and Wills’partner, Becca, was home in 2hrs 31 mins. Despite the disparity in times everyone was satisfied with their particular performance; and next year what will their times be?
