Report by Angela Parker
On Saturday 2nd December 2017 Ian McGilloway and Angela Wade went to Dartford to take part in the Kent Veterans Cross Country Championships hosted by Dartford Harriers.
The race for Ladies (all age categories), Men’s 60-69 and M70+ started at 12 noon, the race that Angela was in and the Men’s 40-49 started at 12.45 which Ian took part in.
The course was a typical cross country course with plenty of hairpin turns, contraflows, woodland tracks, short steep embankments and no concrete. The day was a very pleasant and there was very little mud. Perfect running conditions.
The race at 12 noon was approximately 5k with the start and finish at the same point and the course consisted of laps with the first lap being only half, followed by two full laps. The race at 12.45 was the same course, only they men ran four full laps rather than two and total approximately 9k.
Angela was in the age category W45-54 and finished 45th out of 49 in a time of 26:17. Ian was in the age category M40-49 and finished a superb 24th out of 82 in a time of 32:52
Both Ian and Angela recommend that more DRR take part in these events as they are very well organised. The whole experience was very good, with lots of encouragement from the marshals. Everyone from all running abilities is eligible to take part.
Dover Road Runners are now on the Cross Country map!
The next event is:
Kent County Cross Country Championships Saturday 6th January 2018 Brands Hatch
