Report by Jo Daniels
On an exceptionally wet morning, 6 DRR members travelled to the Julie Rose stadium to take part in the annual Givaudan 10k event.
On arrival (already soaked after the 10 minute walk to the stadium) we huddled inside until the last possible moment when we waded to the start line. A few minutes later we set off around the track before turning into the road (or was it a lake?) towards Kennington. The first obstacle of the course was a large flood across both lanes of the carriageway, and despite seeing a lot of girls screaming and teetering around the edges, we plunged through in true DRR form.
Despite the teaming rain and lack of crowd support, we all made good progress around the fairly flat (and wet) course before eventually arriving back at the stadium for a sprint finish around the track.
First in was Julian with a PB of 48:20, followed by Emma Stockley in 49.34, Jo Daniels in 51:04, Kirsty Lyon in a very quick 1:00:54, Mike Bond (still smiling) at 1:06 and Billy Baker bringing up the rear with a very respectable 1:10.
Owing to the downpour causing problems with their technical equipment, Nice Works, were unable to present the prizes at the end or publish the results as yet, but we are sure they will send us our bottles of wine in the post!!!
All in all, despite the foul weather, a very good result all round.
