Race Report St Albans Park Run Saturday 17th May by John Thorpe

Dylan, my son-in-law, said he was going to do this run on Saturday so I thought I would tag along - although I feared I would probably finish last. It was a super, warm, sunny spring morning and the course went out along a path, three laps of a lake and then back in one part of the huge and most beautiful Verulam Park. Dylan came 11th overall out of 292 in a PB of 18.27 and, after pushing all I could I finished in 31.44 which unfortunately was just 9 secs off my PB; but I had the consolation … [Read more...]

Whitstable 10k 4th May 2014 by Angela Parker

On May Day 2014 I travelled to Whitstable for the annual 10k.  The sun was out very early and it was warming up.  Being Bank Holiday Monday, there was chaos on the A2 so I diverted off to Swingfield and rejoined the A2 just past the Aylesham junction.  Also the main car park in Whitstable, Gorrell Tank was closed as a utility company wanted to do major works there. Canterbury City Council was splendid in providing free parking for the runners on the Westmeads Recreation Ground.  From there it … [Read more...]

Race Report – Manchester Marathon 2014

Manchester Marathon – Sunday April 6th 2014 – Report by Jon Wiles I arrived in Manchester on Saturday ready for the big race the following day. On arrival in Manchester I decided to locate Old Trafford so that I knew where to go, and how long it was going to take to get to the race village the following morning. Once at old Trafford there was little activity about but I managed to locate the start area opposite the Stadium where there was a small area set up ready for race day, and … [Read more...]

Easter Sunday Breakfast Run 2014

Rain did not stop play on the Easter Sunday Breakfast Run, as 16 DRR's set off from the Farthingloe Farm. We headed for the hills, then up on to the cliff top paths for stunning views right across to Folkestone. We passed the Abbots Cliff sound mirror which was used in the second world war to detect over seas movement of  troops and artillery, so I am sure the people of France could detect  the happy chatter of the Dover Roadrunner Troop as we whizzed by. We then headed back over the paths back … [Read more...]

London Marathon Sunday 13th April 2014 Race Report

By Phil Brand Setting off at 07.15 to catch a 7.30 bus,  I was 3 minutes into my trek when a Bourne Sports shoulder bag decided to split and snap contents everywhere;  this was my 'perishable' bag . Well most of those did perish .. well .. at least it was not my kit bag.  Still managed to catch the bus though.  It got me to Lewisham  then a train to Blackheath. Getting off at right time of 08.03, my destination to the Blue start enclosure was paramount as so that I may re-evaluate my race … [Read more...]

Paris Marathon 6th April 2014 – Race Report

Celebration! (1)

Paris Marathon 2014: The Unexpected Marathon! By Claire Jones  Elaine and I took part in the 2013 Paris Marathon and enjoyed our experience so much that we decided to return this year. However 3 weeks into our training, on 5th January, disaster struck. At 13 miles on our 14 mile run I suddenly began to experience severe pain in my lower left leg. Thinking it was muscle strain I rested and went for sports massagesessions with the local hero Tim Sutton. However after 3 weeks of no improvement it … [Read more...]

Race Report – Essex 20 mile – Sunday 9th March 2014

Sunday the 9th of March was here and this was my big test to see how well I was doing in my marathon preparations by running in the Essex 20 race. After all the rubbish weather we had been having my jinx seemed to have returned today, with temperatures being the hottest of the year so far! I met my fellow DRR, Angela Parker, just before the start time and we made our way to the start. The start of the race was quite slow due to narrow roads and running with over 400 others. However … [Read more...]
