Race Report – Essex 20 mile – Sunday 9th March 2014

Sunday the 9th of March was here and this was my big test to see how well I was doing in my marathon preparations by running in the Essex 20 race. After all the rubbish weather we had been having my jinx seemed to have returned today, with temperatures being the hottest of the year so far! I met my fellow DRR, Angela Parker, just before the start time and we made our way to the start. The start of the race was quite slow due to narrow roads and running with over 400 others. However … [Read more...]

Race Report – Brighton Marathon Sunday 6th April 2014

By Julian Manser I woke up early on morning of marathon after getting around four hours sleep, my lack of sleep was most probably due to anticipation and anxiousness of the day ahead. The course of the marathon was mostly flat so overall was not too challenging apart from the long distance I was about to face. I set off at a steady pace soaking up the atmosphere and spurned on by the crowds. By the sixteen mile mark my legs started to feel like lead weights but I spurned myself on to … [Read more...]

Water of Life Half Marathon and 10k – 23rd March 2014

Water of Life Half Marathon and 10k, near Marlow  By Richard Phillips For those that don’t (yet) run, it is a great pastime for all ages and genders and in organised events you run both against those in your age and gender category and against yourself, searching for that elusive PB.  Jane and Richard Phillips of Dover Road Runners travelled to the Water of Life event that starts at the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey near Marlow and winds its away along the … [Read more...]

Race Report – Sheffield Half Marathon 6th April 2014 (by Angela Parker)

Sheffield Half Marathon – 6th April 2014.   This was the 32nd year for this race and the first from the new Don Valley Bowl.  There was big PR surrounding this event with Mark Lebett from ITV’s The Chase programme starting the firing gun and Porsche of Sheffield allowing the winner of the half marathon the use of a Boxster for the weekend.  So when the event was cancelled 50 minutes after it should have started, it was met with complete confusion and mixed messages.  The … [Read more...]

Snowdonia Marathon 2013 Report

A big group of Dover Roadrunners made the long journey to North Wales to compete in the 31st Snowdonia marathon. According to the organisers of the event, this marathon is "demanding and spectacular" and is one of the most difficult in the UK. A day of many seasons greeted the runners, as they joined over 1,500 other athletes on the start line. Steep climbs started almost immediately for the competitors, with stunning scenery, and sheep being the only spectators. The rough terrain continued … [Read more...]

Saxons 5 Report

Report by Leon Goldsack On Saturday 19th October 2013 I went to Saxmundham in Suffolk for camping and the five mile race the next day. The race was a multi terrain run on playing fields, footpaths and off-road and it was flat. Before the race it was raining but it stopped in time for the start of the race. I finished it in 47.20. I got a medal for doing it. I came 61 out of 74 finishers. … [Read more...]

Givaudan Ashford 10K 2013 Report

Report by Jo Daniels On an exceptionally wet morning, 6 DRR members travelled to the Julie Rose stadium to take part in the annual Givaudan 10k event. On arrival (already soaked after the 10 minute walk to the stadium) we huddled inside until the last possible moment when we waded to the start line. A few minutes later we set off around the track before turning into the road (or was it a lake?) towards Kennington. The first obstacle of the course was a large flood across both lanes of the … [Read more...]
